Phillies 16-2 Loss
The reason for this loss was all about our lack of players. We came close to forfeiting as we didn’t have 9 players until just before game time.
Our manager,Tommy Roundy, saved the day by playing right field. Tommy is not only close to 60, but as you know he only has one healthy leg. He played all 7 innings, and in his 3 at bats put wood on the ball 2 times. He was elated so all was not lost. We should have some pictures up soon of him playing. We celebrated at Maddies after the game.
Marlins 7-6 Loss
This was a heart breaker. On Sunday we traveled to Gordon College to play the Manchester Marlins. Nick Meninno pitched the first 4 innings and did a good job giving up 1 earned run and striking out 5. We fell behind 3-0 and then with a 5 run fifth we went ahed 5-3. They caught us to make it 5 all and then we went ahead 6-5 in the top of the 7th, only to have them get 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th for a walk off win. Again our line up was challenged with two pitchers batting 8 and 9, but I liked the way we kept coming back. Tim Corcoran had 3 hits, Danny McCrystal and Greg Olsen 2 hits each.
Marlins 6-3 Win
Tuesday night in Gloucester with a full line up, we snapped our losing streak with this solid win. We led the whole way. Tim Unczur pitched the first 6 innings striking out 9 and allowing only 2 runs. He was outstanding. He is not only one of our corner infielders, he is starting to become a quality starter.
Ryan Kelleher pitched the 7th. He loaded the bases and then struck out the side. Talk about drama. Playing centerfield Ryan also got 3 hits the last one a double. Trey Blackmer, our most consistent hitter, got 2 hits. The biggest hit of the night was Nick Cotraro’s lead off home run in the top of the second. It went over the centerfield fence like a lazor shot. It could have traveled close to 400 feet. A bomb.
Recap
We are 4-6-1 through 11 games. Last year at this time we were 0-11. When our full lineup is there, the potential of this team is exciting.
Upcoming Games
Friday night at St John’s Prep, the North Shore Storm. And Saturday at Seaside at 5 the Peabody Champions. Both good teams that we will be challenged to beat.
