The Seasiders 8 Kingston 1
Last Thursday night we traveled to Haverhill with only 9 players to soundly defeat Kingston. Our top pitcher, Ed Duran, threw a gem going the whole way. He didn’t walk a batter and gave up only 5 hits. He had 16 first pitch strikes vs the 21 batters he faced. Dominant. We got a season high 13 hits. Everyone in the lineup got a hit but Ed. Jeff Stern had 3 hits and Tim Corcoran drove in 3 runs clearing the bases with a triple. This win showed a common theme, with good pitching and the right lineup we can beat anyone.
The Seasiders 7 North Reading 0
Last Saturday at Seaside unfortunately North Reading was only able to field 7 players and they forfeited. It was a shame because we had a full lineup on a beautiful day ready to play.
Phillies 2 The Seasiders 1
On Sunday at Breed park in Lynn we lost to the Phillies in a very well played game. Our lineup was stretched with only 9 but we competed down to the bottom of the 7th when it was 1-1 when they got the walk off winning run. Our pitcher Dean Borders was outstanding. He didn’t walk a batter. He gave up 8 hits, but he pitched out of jams stranding 8 Phillies. Nick Cotraro filled in for an injured Danny McCrystal behind the plate and did a great job. In the top of the 7th Trey Blackmer drove in Mike Mitchell with a single to tie the game and force them to win it in the bottom of the inning. It was too bad we couldn’t get this victory for Tommy Roundy’s birthday that was on Sunday.
Recap
With 8 games to go, we 7-8-1 and have a good shot at making the playoffs. This Saturday we play the North Shore Storm at Seaside at 5. Sunday we have an away game vs. Rowley, and then it’s back to Seaside for 6pm games vs. Swampscott and North Reading next Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
